ABOUT THE MOVIE
Taming the Garden
Salomé Jashi | Georgia, Switzerland, Germany, 2021 | 92 minutes
Language: Georgian with English subtitles

“Surreal, serene and maybe just a little bit sacred.” – Jessica Kiang, Variety
“[An] extraordinary, savagely poetic film.” – Wendy Ide, Observer

The opening shot of this striking environmental tale captures a tree as tall as a fifteen-story building floating on a barge across the vast Black Sea. Its destination lies in a garden countless miles away, privately owned by a wealthy and anonymous man whose passion is the removal, and subsequent replanting, of foreign trees into his own man-made Eden. Learn more here.

This in-person screening with the filmmaker is presented in partnership with the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA), where a near-complete retrospective of Salomé Jashi's films will be shown with the filmmaker in person (September 14-17). For details of the retrospective visit the BAMPFA website here.
