Tales of the Royal Alcazar of Seville

This event is no longer on sale.

Thursday January 18

4:00 PM  –  6:00 PM

The UC Botanical Garden is pleased to host author and scholar, Mervyn Samuel for an illustrated lecture on the palace and gardens of the Royal Alcázar of Seville, the oldest royal residence in Europe still used for its original purpose. The talk will showcase the historical context of the Alcázar going back to Roman times and the influence of the  Islamic presence in Spain.  After 1492 Seville, and specifically the Alcázar, became the point from which all contact between Spain and its transatlantic possessions was controlled, and the gardens became a privileged point where American plants could be acclimatised to European conditions.

For fans of Game of Thrones, the Alcázar is perhaps better known as The Water Gardens of Dorne from Season 5. Join us to learn more about this fascinating place.
