Members Walk: South America

This event is no longer on sale.

Friday June 7

1:00 PM  –  2:00 PM

Take an in-depth look into the South America collection with Horticulturist Noah Gapsis.  The Garden’s South American Area represents the floras of the temperate and mediterranean-climate areas of South America, featuring plants from the matorral of coastal Chile. The South American matorral is comparable to the chaparral of California and the maquis vegetation of the Mediterranean Basin, all characterized by drought-tolerant shrubs with small leathery leaves. Common plants of the matorral include olivillo (Kageneckia) and soapbark tree (Quillaja), as well as terrestrial bromeliads (Puya).

Please note that this walk will feature a slight incline up to the collection. For additional questions about this event, please contact the Membership Department at 510-664-4509.
