This class will introduce you to the fascinating world of Botanical Art. You will learn how to skillfully observe, measure and draw an apple in great detail and with botanical accuracy. This is followed by mixing and layering colors to make your fruit come to life by balancing highlights,
shadows and reflected light.
Students will first work in graphite, followed by watercolors or colored pencils if you prefer.
You have the option to rent materials with a $25 fee payable in cash to the instructor on the day of the class by selecting “Rent Materials.”

Supply List (What to Bring)
- Desk Lamp with natural daylight bulb
- Watercolor paper: Arches Hot Pressed watercolor block, 9”x12” OR Arches single sheet 140lb, cut into 6 pieces – 10” x 11”
- Tester strips of same watercolor paper, 2” x 4”
- One 9" x 12" sheet of drawing paper: Strathmore Bristol Vellum 300 series
- One 9” x 12” sheet of Tracing paper – Canson Vidalon Vellum
- Pencils – H & 2H
- 1 Blending Stump
- Divider – measuring tool with 2 points (without turning wheel)
- 2 Erasers - Tombo Mono Zero (round) & a kneaded eraser
Watercolors – You can use your own colors, I will use the following:
- Watercolor brushes - I use Winsor & Newton Series 7, Sable brushes, size 1 & 3
- Palette - I use a ceramic palette with 6 wells (plastic is fine)

Transparent Yellow (Winsor & Newton)
Burnt Umber (Winsor & Newton)

Cancellation Policy: Notification two weeks prior to program receives full refund. If you find you cannot attend less than 2 weeks prior to event, you may transfer your registration to someone else by having them use your name at check-in. In the event that the Garden has to cancel a program you will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer to another program.
