Inside the Artist's Studio: Lee McCaffree and Nina Antze

This event is no longer on sale.

Saturday January 22

10:00 AM  –  12:00 PM

As a compliment to this year's Plants Illustrated exhibit, Inside the Artists' Studios is a two-part series featuring the work of 4 botanical artists from the Northern California Society of Botanical Artists. Each session features two artists who will focus on their area of expertise, inviting the viewer virtually into their studio via Zoom for a 45-minute demonstration of their technique. There will also be opportunity for Q & A. Join us for one or both!

January 22, 10am-12pm

Lee McCaffree: Exploring Elements of Leaves
The study of leaves leads us to a better understanding of their diversity. We will take a closer look to see veins, edges, shapes, textures and how they connect to the plant. This observation is a beginning step in botanical art. I will illustrate some of the characteristics as the next step. Bring a few leaves to follow along for your own hands-on look at leaf characteristics. You can also choose to sketch in graphite as we share.

Nina Antze: Layering Colors for Winter Leaves: A workshop in Colored Pencil
Working with the unique hues of winter--violets, reds, purples, and interesting greens--we will work on building the many layers of color to create rich and interesting leaves. The focus will be on choosing colors, especially greens, and getting started laying down color. We will also work with some finishing techniques. Watch or work along.

Please NOTE: All participants are required to have and sign into their own Zoom account prior to joining meetings hosted by UC Berkeley. If you don't already have a Zoom account you can sign up for free here.
