Exploring Kenya: Plants, Landscapes, People
This event is no longer on sale.
Take a photo expedition with Fred Dortort as he shares images of the many unusual succulent plants he encountered during his trip to the East African nation of Kenya. In addition to plants, Fred captures views of striking landscapes, some unusual animal sightings, and photos of some of the many interesting people he met among them indigenous tribal people, contemporary urban and rural residents, and the occasional 'succulent plant nut'. Fred will also highlight some plants from this region represented in the Garden's collection.
The presenter:
Fred Dortort, the author of The Timber Press Guide to Succulent Plants of the World as well as many magazine and journal articles, has been a grower of succulent plants and cacti, as well as a volunteer at the Botanical Garden, for over forty years. He's traveled to Kenya, as well as Madagascar and numerous trips to South Africa, in order to see and photograph plants in habitat and learn something about the environments in which they live. He's been able to enjoy the company of highly knowledgeable people (including UCBG horticulturists), and is looking forward to sharing some of the sights and plants he's seen with the UCBG community.
