Capture the beauty of Spring Bulbs by creating a botanical illustration. Catherine Watters is an enthusiastic instructor who enjoys sharing her passion for botanical art. The focus will be on drawing, color mixing, and application, as well as balancing light and shadow to bring your subject to life. A variety of flowers will be available for you to choose from. Advanced registration required.

All levels are welcome

You have the option to rent materials with a $25 fee payable in cash to the instructor on the day of the class by selecting “Rent Materials.”

About the Presenter: 
Catherine Watters has been teaching botanical art for over twenty-five years in the San Francisco Bay area. Her paintings are included in several florilegia as well as permanent and private collections in the U.S., Europe and Australia, and appear in numerous books and magazines. She is a member of the Board of Directors of the American Society of Botanical Artists, the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden and The Red List Project. She is also a member of the Association des Passionnnés de l’Illustration Botanique in France, and The Florilegium Society at the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney, Australia. Catherine received her B.A. from the University of California at Davis where she studied French and Art.

Cancellation Policy: 

Notification two weeks prior to program receives full refund. If you find you cannot attend less than 2 weeks prior to event, you may transfer your registration to someone else by having them use your name at check-in. In the event that the Garden has to cancel a program you will be offered a full refund or the option to transfer to another program.

- Hot pressed watercolor paper - I prefer Arches 140lb. single sheet, cut into 4 pieces. You can also use Arches Hot pressed watercolor block, 9” x12” 
- Tester strips of same watercolor paper 
- 2 - 9" x 12" sheets of drawing paper: Strathmore Bristol Vellum 300 series
- 1 sheet of Tracing paper, 9” x 12”
- Pencils – 2H &  H
- 1 Blending Stump
- Divider – measuring tool 
- Erasers - Tombo Mono Zero (round)  & a kneaded eraser
- Desk Lamp

Watercolors

- Palette - I use a ceramic palette with 6 wells / plastic is fine
- Watercolor brushes - I use Winsor & Newton, Series 7, Sable brushes, size 1 & 3
- Additional Brush - Princeton Dakota 6300B #2 Bright

You can use your own colors, I will use the following:
